Mermaids DO exist - say hello to the mermaid silhouette!

As a little girl, you probably held the red-haired Aerial in high esteem, and why not – her beautiful mermaid silhouette and long, flowy hair. Whilst the mermaid silhouette is typically characterised by a seam at the knee, it is often recreated in a softer way through a fitted design up top and flared-from-the-knee shape below. Given the dramatic nature of a seam at the knee, it’s understandable why many designers and celebs opt for the softer option. We watched the 2009 Emmy's in the office this morning and were so happy to see that the one-shoulder dresses are definitely in and are definitely staying! Nearly every popular TV actress was in a one-shoulder baring gown! Debra Messing was in a striking red one-shoulder number whilst Cat Deeley was in a gorgeous demure champagne coloured dress. Hayden Panettiere rocked the stage in a dazzling red one-shoulder piece which made her look more mature than her young years. GOSH has asked Maree Venturini of renowned Darlinghurst Salon, HAIRMESPHERE Sydney to give us some top tips on DIY hair Demi style:

Maree's tips below on how to recreate Demi's Look:

"Simple, classic yet elegant sophistication oozes from this look on Demi Moore."

1. You do not need to shampoo your hair to recreate this look. It probably is best to do this on hair which has been washed a day in advance.

2. Use a strong hold gel if you have coarse and curly hair or just use a little serum (Redken Glass 01) for fine to normal hair. Distribute it evenly around the sides and the top of your hair whilst you are brushing it into a ponytail.

3. Section your hair in the middle and tie your hair back into the nape area

4. Finish off with hairspray to calm down any frizz or secure loose ends

Voila!

It's come to our attention lately that the new fashion trend for celebs is to 'shock'. The more shocking the better and this can be said for celebs such as Gwyneth Paltrow (her new found style and leg flashes have been much talked about) as well as Drew Barrymore and Lady GaGa.

Lady GaGa has been seen around town with her tea cup and saucer which never misses a photo opp. The eclectic singer has been donning this 'tea-cup' look for a while and in the pic above she is seen holding her beloved tea cup with oversized sunnies and geisha-like makeup.

Drew Barrymore has been seen out and about promoting her new film Grey Gardens and her new found fashion sense (or stylist) has seen her wearing sharp, tailored and fashion forward outfits that have transformed her from the casual girl-next-door to Hollywood Hottie!

So do we!! This mother of 6 kids (and counting) always manages to look elegant and sophisticated without trying too hard. Her style is "less is more" and judging by her red carpet appearances Angelina seems to go for the more subdued colours such as white, black, eggplant, navy and dark greens. Which makes this above outfit she wore to the BAFTAS 2009 a bit of a surprise! Here is the first time we've seen Angelina in something bright and yellow. This jacket is not only a once-off love affair. With cropped jackets and leather-like jackets being a big hit this season on the Autumn/Winter runways, we've seen them stylishly pictured on the fabulous shoulders of celebrities including Nicole Richie, Katie Cruise, Taylor Momsen from Gossip Girls, Jennifer Aniston and Vanessa Hudgens.

The thing we like most about this cropped leather jacket trend is the fact that it looks good with everything! It seems like no matter what you are wearing, the jacket will mould itself with your outfit, adding a bit of edge and funk to whatever it touches. Nicole Richie shows us how she wears her cropped jacket with maxi dresses and innocent white cocktail dresses. She manages to make the maxi dress look more 'autumn and cool' whilst Taylor Momsen makes the white cocktail dress look more 'dressy and less virginal'.

Jennifer Aniston and Vanessa Hudgens wore their cropped jackets on the red carpet, again showing the versatility of this jacket... if it's walked the red carpet then its good enough for us! Jennifer wore hers over a strapless grey maxi dress at the premiere of her movie, Marley & Me. Vanessa Hudgens wore hers with a layered ruffle mini dress, adding texture and a 'toughness' that adds edge to her style.

On a side note Ginnifer Goodwin & Justin Long was in Sydney earlier for the open air cinema premiere on Monday, and my friend who went mentioned that Ginnifer was looking very thin. Compared to Jennifer Aniston & Jennifer Connelly she does not look stick thin, so it's true what they say about the camera adding 10 pounds!

Did you catch us on TV last week? We unveiled some new celeb looks which channelled the styles of the fabulously daring Gwyneth Paltrow, ever changing Rihanna and the very posh Victoria Beckham.

Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette was universally panned by critics - but I can watch this over and over again due to the most delicious imagery on display : delectable cakes, the ravishing Versaille palace filled with delicate parasols and satin pastel gowns.

America's undisputable all american teen queen Kirsten Dunst as the young queen of france - whimsical and full of innocence.

Australia's very own Rose Byrne plays Duchesse de Polignac - the queen's partner in crime when it comes to fun and decadence.

What really kept my eyes peeled to the screen (besides the obvious - the clothes!) were the following:

The beautiful shoes - if I didn't know better I would have thought they were edible. The director commissioned Manolo Blahnik to create hundreds of pairs of shoes just for the film :

Macaroons - they are displayed in nearly every scene and she also nibbles on them once in awhile :

She is holding a cupcake a cupcake but take note of the big tower of macaroons on the right - heavenly!

I was very lucky to have tasted recently the macaroons of Laduree - the inventors of the original double decker macaron. They were also the pastry consultant for the movie too! And I will vouch that they taste as good as they look :

While the stars of the Emmys were busy air-kissing and strutting down the red carpet, fashion designers went into overdrive.

The race is on to see who will be first to get those celebrity frocks on the racks.
Believe it or not the turnaround happens that fast.

Rebecca Lau is the founder of online fashion store www.goshcelebrity.com.au and she is already taking orders for Emmy dresses.

"We'll see the Emmys and the next day you'll be able to order similar designs online," she said.
Now most of us know we cannot afford the real thing so it is good to know you can fake it and still make it.

"It's basically allowing people who don't earn as much money as the celebrities to look glamorous and feel good," Rebecca said.
